Colorado students spend 160 days each year in school. Ideally, they spend this time feeling a sense of connection to their school. Meaning, they feel that their school is a safe place where they have positive developmental relationships with their teachers and peers.
Unfortunately, not all students feel this way. When they don't, it can lead to lower grades and poorer mental and physical health. Therefore, strategies to promote school connectedness act as protective factors; when you implement them, you help buffer students against negative outcomes.
Throughout this course, you will learn:
How to define school connectedness and positive school climate
How student academic and health outcomes are related to school connectedness
